Windsurfing: Bradfield Wind Direction: W Wind Stength: 10-17kts Surf / Sea State: flat Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: sunny Max Speed: 26.49 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 23.64 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Another great 5 star session at Bradfield . Arrived 1 and to be honest
there didn't seem much wind, but Ian, and the others were planning in the
middle of the river. Rigged 8.5 Phantom to the Patrik 145 with sail 3cm
less downhaul. Shot off the beach, even though I couldn't feel any wind,
guess it funnels in gusts. Nice run all the way across at 24kts. Several
sailors out Craig and Andy M on longbd, Colsey Graham and Mark on
Formula's. Mark was on his new (used) Fanatic formula with aggressive
looking cut out and others were on freerides. We all split up in different
parts of the river. Saw the longbd's heading up to Manningtree and
Formula's to Wrabness. Stayed reaching from Bradfield as experimenting with
fins and mast foot positions to improve the performance of the 145 Patrik.
Distributor stays the stock fin (freeride fin) is best and he is right. My
old 50cm upright race fin killed the board handling, railing up way too
much at speed with no gain in speed. So def sticking with the 48cm
standard, which is a dream, ride in comparison. Moved mast track back 2
inches from back and yep even better ride. The sail refused to rotate with
so little downhaul, but planing so much, couldn't be bothered to adjust.
Runs stayed at around the 24kts marker with the 10-15kts wind sometimes
gusting 17kts, then Craig on a longbd strayed into my territory on the same
tack heading out and both of us pumped. Got to be done, he became prey as
the chase began. Caught him but by then we were way downwind as he was
desperate to avoid the pass. Way past Wrabness I was now in the pooh and he
has a daggerboard. Luckily a few gusts got me back up 1/2 then met up with
Andy Mex and yep another burn up downwind. Lost so much ground now and the
wind dropped, so the walk of shame was on! Tide running out, lightwind is
not a good combo at Bradfield..took ages to get to within 200 mtrs then
started the walk. Def worth it though as the board inched over the 26kts
mark with some coaxing. Great day at Bradfield. Def prefer there to most
places. Looked at Mark P formula but not tempted, had bad memories going
downwind on mine!
